Darth Vader has a problem. His secret apprentice died helping to spark the Rebellion, and the replacement growing in the cloning vats of Kamino keeps remembering a woman named Juno Eclipse. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II opens with that clone, or perhaps the real Starkiller, tearing his way out of Vader's facility in a rain-lashed escape, and from there it never stops asking the question at its heart: is the man you are playing actually himself?
The answer LucasArts gives in combat is simple: he is more powerful than ever. Starkiller wields two lightsabers from the opening minutes, and Force Push, Grip and Lightning hit harder than they did in the first game, sending stormtroopers spinning off catwalks and through glass. New tricks widen the toolbox. Mind Trick turns enemies against their own squadmates or convinces them to leap from a ledge, while Force Fury lets Starkiller unleash his rage in a burst of raw power when the meter is full. Lightsaber crystals found along the way change what each blade does, which gives fights a little room for experimentation.
The journey takes in the bridge cities of Cato Neimoidia, the misty swamps of Dagobah, where a certain small Jedi Master makes an appearance, and a return to Kamino for a full-scale Rebel assault. Rahm Kota returns, Boba Fett is hired by Vader to track down his runaway experiment, and the battle against the towering Gorog is one of the biggest spectacles LucasArts built on this hardware. Sam Witwer once again gives Starkiller real emotional weight, and the light side and dark side endings both land with force.
Critics were cooler on the sequel than on the original, mostly over the length of its campaign, but what is here is tight, loud and gorgeous, with challenge rooms to replay for higher scores. With a third game never made, this is where the Starkiller saga was left hanging, and it is the chapter to play to see how the secret apprentice's story ends on the Xbox 360.
The Star Wars Saga continues with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, the highly anticipated sequel to the fastest-selling Star Wars game ever created, which has sold more than seven million copies worldwide. In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, the world was introduced to Darth Vader’s now fugitive apprentice, Starkiller — the unlikely hero who would ignite the flames of rebellion in a galaxy so desperately in need of a champion. In the sequel, Starkiller returns with over-the-top Force powers and embarks on a journey to discover his own identity and to reunite with his one true love, Juno Eclipse. In Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Starkiller is once again the pawn of Darth Vader — but instead of training his protégée as a ruthless assassin, the dark lord is attempting to clone his former apprentice in an attempt to create the Ultimate Sith warrior. The chase is on — Starkiller is in pursuit of Juno and Darth Vader is hunting for Starkiller. With all-new devastating Force powers and the ability to dual-wield lightsabers, Starkiller cuts a swath through deadly new enemies across exciting worlds from the Star Wars movies — all in his desperate search for answers to his past.
