Item Description

A Jedi's lightsaber is at its best when it is swatting blaster bolts straight back at whoever fired them, and that is the fantasy this Game Boy Advance adaptation of Attack of the Clones is built around. Published by THQ alongside the film's 2002 release, it puts the second prequel's story in your hands through three Jedi: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Mace Windu.

Most of the game is side-scrolling lightsaber action, slashing through enemies and deflecting fire as the story moves across Coruscant, Tatooine and Geonosis. Following the film, Obi-Wan's investigation puts him on the trail of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, Anakin returns to Tatooine in search of his mother, and the finale throws the Jedi into the battle against Count Dooku and the Separatists. Breaking up the on-foot stages are vehicle sections, including a speeder chase through Coruscant's skylanes that echoes the film's pursuit of the bounty hunter Zam Wesell, a standout set piece of the movie.

Reviews in 2002 were lukewarm at best, so this is a cartridge to pick up for the license and the era more than for polish. That era is the real draw: the spring when Episode II was everywhere, clone troopers filled toy aisles and a Jedi adventure in your pocket was part of the prequel fever. On a shelf of Star Wars games for Nintendo handhelds, this is the GBA entry that covers Episode II's story from Coruscant to Geonosis.
