Item Description

The countdown is what gives Splinter Cell: Blacklist its urgency. A terrorist group calling itself the Engineers announces the Blacklist, a schedule of escalating attacks on the United States that will continue until America pulls its troops out of foreign countries. The President answers by creating Fourth Echelon, a black-ops unit reporting only to her, and puts Sam Fisher in charge. Ubisoft Toronto's 2013 entry sends Sam and his team around the world chasing the next attack before the clock runs out, with Eric Johnson taking over the role from longtime voice Michael Ironside.

Blacklist openly rewards three ways to play, and the scoring system tracks each one. Ghost players slip through levels unseen, Panther players strike lethally from the shadows, and Assault players kick down the door and trust their reflexes. Mark and Execute returns from Conviction, and the new Killing in Motion lets Sam chain marked takedowns while on the move. The gadget kit supports every approach, from sticky cameras and the Tri-Rotor drone to a crossbow loaded with non-lethal bolts, and the money you earn on each mission feeds straight back into upgrades for Sam's suit, goggles and weapons.

Between operations, the Paladin, a flying command center, serves as your base. Grim, Charlie and Briggs each run their own side operations, from stealth-only infiltrations for Grim to waves of enemies for Charlie, while the arms dealer Andriy Kobin offers contracts you can tackle any way you like. Briggs's missions are built strictly for two players, and the campaign shares its toolset with Spies vs. Mercs, the asymmetric multiplayer mode where stealthy spies faced off against heavily armed mercs, which was designed for online play and returned here in both classic and updated forms.

Blacklist bridges the patient shadow work of Chaos Theory and the momentum of Conviction, and reviewers widely welcomed it as a return to form for the series. On the Xbox 360 it was the last new mainline Splinter Cell of its console generation, and the most flexible mission design the franchise ever offered: every level is a sandbox for deciding what kind of operative Sam Fisher should be.

About the game

Players can define their personal play styles and be rewarded for those choices. Ghost players want to remain undetected. Assault players rely on instincts and firepower to deal with a situation. Panther players strike lethally from the shadows in the most efficient and silent way.
