Item Description
Every card you draw becomes a shovel aimed at an opponent's library. Sphinx's Tutelage is a three-mana blue enchantment that makes target opponent mill two cards whenever you draw. If those two cards are both nonland cards sharing a color, the process repeats, so a single draw can occasionally rip a long chunk off the top of their deck. It also comes with a built-in engine: {5}{U} lets you draw a card, then discard a card, which triggers it again.
That makes it a natural centerpiece for mill decks, casual and Commander alike. Wheel effects and mass card draw turn into a barrage of triggers, and every cantrip and looter you already play suddenly pulls double duty. Against a mono-colored opponent the repeat clause gets especially exciting, since so many of their nonland cards share a color.
This is the Special Guests printing, collector number 75, illustrated by Jason A. Engle in the showcase frame, offered in non-foil. The card first arrived in Magic Origins, and this premium version gives a mill favorite a fittingly star-crossed look, matched by its flavor text: “Sailors swear by the Sphinx's stars, which always seem to point the way home.”
