Item Description
Species Specialist turns every death of your chosen creature type into a fresh card. As it enters, you choose a creature type, and whenever a creature of that type dies, you may draw a card, whether it belonged to you, an opponent or anyone else at the table. Name your own tribe in a sacrifice deck and every token or chump block refuels your hand; name the type your opponents rely on and their combat losses and board wipes become your gain.
That flexibility makes it easy to fit almost anywhere. Zombie, Elf, Goblin and Human decks that trade creatures freely get a steady stream of cards, while an aristocrats build that sacrifices tokens of a single type can draw several cards in a turn. Changelings and other all-types creatures count for any type you name, and in Commander a well-timed board wipe can turn a four-mana 2/3 into a full hand.
This is the Commander 2020 printing, collector number 47, illustrated by Paul Scott Canavan, in non-foil, from the Ikoria Commander decks, with a playful bit of flavor text about preferring dogs to Ikoria's monsters.
