Item Description
Six mana buys a lot in Sorin, Grim Nemesis. He enters with 6 loyalty and starts paying for himself at once: the +1 reveals the top card of your library, puts it into your hand, and makes each opponent lose life equal to its mana value. That is a card and a drain every turn, and because it hits each opponent, it scales beautifully in multiplayer Commander. Need an answer instead? The −X deals X damage to a creature or planeswalker and gains you that much life, so he can clear a threat the turn he lands and still stay on the board.
The ultimate is where the grim part shows. At −9, Sorin creates a 1/1 lifelinking Vampire Knight token for each point of the highest life total among all players, which in a 40-life format can mean an absurd army in one activation. He is natural top end for Orzhov control, Vampire decks and any white-black deck that likes long games.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing from the Li'l Walkers drop, collector number 400, a borderless foil illustrated by Uta Natsume. Li'l Walkers reimagined planeswalkers in a playful, pint-sized style, giving the brooding vampire lord a charming twist on the table.
