Item Description
This Snorlax is a love letter to the earliest days of the Pokémon TCG. XY179 was printed with a layout inspired by the original era of the card game to mark its 20th anniversary, and it is modeled on the classic Jungle Snorlax, with artwork by Ken Sugimori, the designer whose drawings defined the original Pokémon.
It echoes the Jungle card on the table too. The Immunity Ability means Snorlax can't be affected by Special Conditions and clears any that are already affecting it, while Body Slam deals 50 damage for four Colorless Energy and Paralyzes the opponent's Active Pokémon on a heads. With 130 HP and a Retreat Cost of four, it is every bit the immovable wall it was when Jungle arrived in 1999.
In English, XY179 was released as an XY Black Star Promo in the Snorlax-GX Box in December 2016. In Japan the same card came with a Pokémon bread promotion, which is why a small Daiichi Pan logo sits in the bottom right corner of the artwork, a quirky detail that makes this promo a conversation piece in any binder. This is the XY179 promo, in foil.
