Few ad campaigns have aged into cult legend quite like the one where Burger King's silent, grinning, plastic-headed King turned up uninvited with a breakfast sandwich. Sneak King turns that unsettling mascot into the star of a full Xbox game, and it is every bit as strange as it sounds. You play as the King himself, creeping through four locations, a sawmill, a suburban cul-de-sac, a construction site and downtown, to surprise hungry citizens with hot Burger King food before they ever see you coming.
The stealth is simple but surprisingly well thought out. Every character casts a blue awareness shadow, and stepping into it blows your cover, so you weave between sightlines, duck into trash cans and bushes and wait for the perfect moment. Reach your target and a well-timed button press triggers a flourish, a theatrical food delivery rated across three levels, and the bigger the flourish, the more points you earn. Chaining surprises without being spotted and striking from a hiding spot push the score even higher.
Developed by Blitz Games, Sneak King was sold only at North American Burger King restaurants from November 19 to December 24, 2006, for a few dollars with a value meal, alongside the pocket-bike racer PocketBike Racer and the bumper-car game Big Bumpin'. The promotion moved millions of discs across the three games, each built to run on both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360, with the 360 side carrying 200 Gamerscore worth of Achievements.
It is a time capsule of the moment a fast-food chain decided console games could be the ultimate meal promotion, and the King's frozen smile makes every level feel like a fever dream. Part pop-culture oddity, part advertising history and wholly a conversation piece, it preserves that one strange holiday season of 2006 when a stealth game came with your value meal.
