Item Description

Every Skylanders fan eventually dreams up a hero of their own, and Skylanders Imaginators is the entry that finally lets them build it. Toys for Bob designed the 2016 game around Creation Crystals, which store a Skylander you invent yourself, and the creation tools go remarkably deep: you choose one of ten Battle Classes, then shape your hero's look, weapons, voice, catchphrase and even the music that plays while it is on the portal.

Those classes give each creation a clear identity. Bazookers, Bowslingers, Brawlers, Knights, Ninjas, Quickshots, Sentinels, Smashers, Sorcerers and Swashbucklers all fight differently, and new body parts and weapons come from Imaginite chests hidden throughout the levels, so exploring constantly feeds the creation side of the game. As your Imaginator levels up you pick its new powers, turning a character you designed for laughs into one you have carefully built for battle.

The story raises the stakes in fittingly silly style. Kaos has discovered Mind Magic, the ancient power behind the creation of the Skylanders, and is using it to build an army of Doomlanders. Standing against him are the Senseis, master Skylanders who each train a Battle Class, unlocking special moves and Sky-Chi super attacks for creations in their class and tying the series' existing roster to the heroes you invent. The bright, cartoonish worlds and humor-forward writing are intact, and co-op for two makes it a natural family game.

Imaginators was the final main console entry in Skylanders, which gives it a special place in the franchise's story: the point where the toys-to-life series handed the design tools to its players. It is designed around the Portal of Power and the series' figures, and on Wii U it is the most player-driven Skylanders adventure you can play.
