Complete in box: the UMD, the manual and the original case, all original; anything beyond that is included only if you can see it in the photos. Look over the photos for condition, packaging and details. Every game is tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.
Travis Grady is just a trucker taking a shortcut when a figure on the road outside Silent Hill sends him swerving, and minutes later he is pulling a badly burned girl from a burning house. That one act of decency drags him into the town's darkest secrets. Silent Hill: Origins is a prequel to the original Silent Hill, set before Harry Mason ever arrived, and it fills in the story of Alessa Gillespie and the cult that shaped her fate.
Konami handed the series to a Western studio for the first time here, and Climax built the game from the ground up for the PSP. Instead of slipping between realities on cue, Travis travels through mirrors, stepping through the glass into the rusted, blood-streaked Otherworld and back again, and many puzzles depend on changing something in one version of a building to open the way in the other. The settings read like a tour of Silent Hill lore: Alchemilla Hospital, Cedar Grove Sanitarium, the Riverside Motel and the Artaud Theatre, each with its own nightmare twin waiting on the other side of the mirror.
Combat has a raw, desperate edge. Travis fights with his fists or whatever he can find, and melee weapons break after a while, so you are always scavenging. Origins is remembered for its one-shot throwables, such as portable TVs and typewriters you can hurl at an oncoming monster, with a handful of firearms for emergencies. There is no on-screen HUD at all; the edges of the screen bleed red when Travis is close to death, which keeps the presentation clean and the dread constant.
Akira Yamaoka returned to score it, so the sound has the grinding, melancholy texture the series is known for, and the story turns inward to Travis's own past through Silent Hill's habit of giving guilt a physical form. A PS2 port arrived a year later, but the PSP is where Origins began, a full-length Silent Hill designed for headphones and a dark room. As the chronological first chapter of the whole saga, it is the piece that ties the original game's mysteries together.
Silent Hill: Origins is the fifth installment in the Silent Hill survival horror series, and a prequel to the original game. As in the previous entries, the player move back and forth between nightmare and real versions of the town, gathering items used to solve puzzles and open up new areas. Monsters of various types provide obstacles and, in series tradition, are mostly disturbingly twisted versions of humanity. The main character can fight with his bare fists or use melee weapons. Unlike previous games in the series, melee weapons break after a time. There are also one-shot items that can be thrown and several guns. There is no HUD, but the edge of the screen turns red when the protagonist is near death.
