Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse begins with a death. Nanashi, a young Hunter scraping out a living in the demon-infested ruins of Tokyo, is killed in the line of duty and brought back by the Celtic god Dagda, on the condition that he serve as Dagda's godslayer. It is a gripping opening, and it sets the tone for a sequel that revisits the world of Shin Megami Tensei IV from a new angle while the forces of heaven and Lucifer's legions tear the city apart.

Rather than retreading SMT IV, Apocalypse branches off from its events, and the original's hero, Flynn, plays a pivotal part. Nanashi's childhood friend Asahi and a band of fellow Hunters give this entry a warmer, ensemble feel that its lonelier predecessor lacked, and a coalition of polytheistic gods called the Divine Powers adds a third side to the war. The writing still goes to very dark places, but the bonds between the characters give the story an emotional range the series rarely attempts.

Combat builds on the Press Turn system, where striking weaknesses earns extra actions and whiffing costs you dearly. The Smirk state rewards smart play with powered-up follow-ups, and a human partner fights alongside your demon team, adding attacks and support every turn. Demon negotiation and fusion are as deep as ever, with a huge roster drawn from mythology and folklore around the world in the series' famously strange designs, and building the perfect party is half the fun.

Apocalypse arrived in 2016, late in the 3DS's life, and it plays like a culmination of everything Atlus learned on the system: a big, polished RPG with dozens of hours of content and endings shaped by where you place your loyalty. Veterans of SMT IV will find their old questions answered in surprising ways, and newcomers get a sharper, faster, more character-driven take on the formula. The 3DS was its home, and it is a high point of the system's RPG library.
