Item Description

Imagine seeing a number floating over every stranger's head and slowly realizing it is a countdown to their death. In Devil Survivor, the government seals off the heart of Tokyo inside the Yamanote Line after demons begin to appear, and you and your friends are trapped inside with modified handheld devices called COMPs that can summon them, along with the unsettling ability to see how much time everyone around you has left. Overclocked is the enhanced 3DS version of Atlus's 2009 DS cult favorite, and it is the fullest way to experience the story.

The lockdown plays out over a tense, branching week. Mysterious Laplace Mail messages predict tragedies before they happen, and how you respond decides who lives, who dies and which of several very different factions you finally side with. Your hacker friend Atsuro and the anxious, very human Yuzu keep the apocalypse grounded and personal, and Suzuhito Yasuda's character designs give the cast a sleek, memorable look.

Battles open on grid-based maps where teams of a human leader and two demons move like units in a tactics game, then shift into quick first-person skirmishes in classic Shin Megami Tensei style. Hitting weaknesses earns extra turns, the Skill Crack system lets you claim new abilities from the enemies you defeat, and a demon auction feeds a fusion system deep enough to swallow entire evenings. It is a demanding game that rewards planning rather than grinding, and its hardest fights feel like genuine puzzles.

Overclocked adds voice acting for nearly every line, enhanced art and new demons, along with an extended story in the form of an eighth day. The voiced script gives the late-game confrontations far more weight, and the extra day lets each ending breathe instead of cutting to the credits. If you love tactics games where choices carry real consequences, this is Devil Survivor told in full.
