Item Description

For a lot of original Xbox owners, this two-in-one disc is where the console's library began. Sega put Sega GT 2002 and Jet Set Radio Future side by side on a single disc, and the pairing was given away in specially marked Xbox console packages, which is why so many players remember these two games as their introduction to the system. It is a strange and wonderful combination: a serious car-collecting racer next to one of the most stylish action games of its generation.

Sega GT 2002, from Wow Entertainment, is Sega's answer to Gran Turismo. The career mode hands you $13,000 to buy your first car, then lets you earn your way up through license tests, prize money and upgrades. It has some clever twists of its own, including the ability to choose your opponents directly and a damage meter that eats into your winnings, with a bonus for finishing without a scratch. The standout is Chronicle Mode, which puts you behind the wheel of 1960s and early-1970s machines and upgrades them over time until they can run with newer cars, a lovely nod to automotive history that few racers of the era attempted.

Jet Set Radio Future is the other half, and for many players it is the real reason to own the disc. Smilebit's 2002 reimagining of the Dreamcast's Jet Set Radio sends the GGs skating through the futuristic streets of Tokyo-to, grinding rails, riding walls and spraying graffiti across a city squeezed by the Rokkaku Group. The cel-shaded visuals still look striking, DJ Professor K narrates the chaos from his pirate radio station, and the soundtrack, anchored by Hideki Naganuma's infectious, sample-heavy tracks, is a huge part of why the game has such a devoted following more than two decades later.

Together they make a sharp snapshot of what Sega brought to Microsoft's first console after leaving the hardware business: precision and depth on one side, attitude and color on the other. Two very different Xbox exclusives sharing one disc is a fun piece of console history in its own right, and playing Jet Set Radio Future on the hardware it was made for is still the real thing.
