Item Description
Seat of the Synod looks like the simplest card imaginable: a land that taps for blue. The trick is in the type line. It is an Artifact Land, which means every copy counts toward affinity, metalcraft, improvise and any “artifacts you control” effect, while still making your land drop for the turn.
That makes it a quiet powerhouse in artifact decks. It shrinks affinity costs, turns on metalcraft early, feeds Urza-style and Thopter commanders, and gives blue artifact builds a mana source that doubles as part of the engine. The trade-off is that artifact removal can now hit your lands, which only adds to the tension of playing it. Mirrodin introduced the artifact lands in 2003, and the blue one has anchored metal-themed decks for more than two decades.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing from the Mirrodinsanity drop, collector number 301, a borderless foil illustrated by DXTR, a fresh look for one of the most-played artifact lands.
