Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
The Kaladesh Inventions were the showpieces of the 2016 Masterpiece Series: classic artifacts redrawn as gleaming filigree treasures from the plane's inventors' fair and tucked randomly into Kaladesh-block booster packs. Sculpting Steel fits that world perfectly, because its whole job is to become someone else's best invention.
For three colorless mana it can enter as a copy of any artifact on the battlefield, yours or an opponent's. Double up your own mana rock or engine piece, borrow the most annoying artifact across the table, or copy an artifact creature for a second body. It slots into any color, which is why it shows up in so many artifact-themed Commander decks, and in Sharuum the Hegemon builds it is half of a well-known loop with the Esper sphinx. Its flavor text, written for Kaladesh, introduces one of the plane's inventors: "Perfected by the kinetic sculptor Shanti Makam, these self-assembling metal strands can be coaxed into any shape imaginable."
This is the Masterpiece Series: Kaladesh Inventions printing, collector number 23, illustrated by Magali Villeneuve, in foil.
