Item Description
Picture a city street where a parked truck, a lamppost and a steel girder are all ammunition, and you can hurl every one of them with a thought. Scarlet Nexus is built around that feeling. Bandai Namco's 2021 action RPG is set in a "Brain Punk" future where a hormone discovered in the human brain unlocked psychic powers, and humanity's best psionics serve in the Other Suppression Force, defending the neon city of New Himuka from the grotesque, brain-hungry Others that fall from the sky.
You choose between two protagonists, Yuito Sumeragi, a fresh recruit chasing the memory of the psionic who saved him as a child, and Kasane Randall, a cool, formidable elite with secrets of her own. Their campaigns run in parallel, crossing at key moments and filling in each other's blind spots, so the full story only comes into focus once you have seen both sides. Plenty of it is told through stylized comic-panel scenes that suit the anime-drenched look of the whole game.
Combat is where Scarlet Nexus pulls away from the crowd. Psychokinetic throws flow into weapon strikes, and the Struggle Arms System lets you borrow your squadmates' powers on demand: Hanabi's pyrokinesis to set your attacks ablaze, Luka's teleportation to blink to an enemy's side, Kyoka's duplication to double every throw, Gemma's sclerokinesis to harden your body against damage. Chaining those abilities together against Others that each demand a different answer gives fights a frantic, puzzle-like rhythm. The Brain Map skill tree and between-mission bond episodes deepen your connection to the cast, unlocking stronger links in battle as friendships grow.
It is the rare new property from a major Japanese publisher that commits fully to its own strange vision, with a twist-heavy plot that keeps upending what you think the OSF is fighting for. On PlayStation 5 the frantic, effects-heavy battles keep their speed, and the dual-campaign structure gives it real replay value. If you love character-driven action RPGs and anime storytelling with ambition to spare, Scarlet Nexus is a cult favorite in waiting.

About the game
In a far distant future, a psionic hormone was discovered in the human brain, granting people extra-sensory powers and changing the world as we know it. Just as humanity was entering this new era, deranged mutants known as Others began to descend from the sky with a thirst for human brains. Highly resistant to conventional attack methods, extreme measures needed to be taken to battle the overwhelming threat and preserve humanity. Those with acute extra-sensory abilities, known as psionics, were our chance to fight the onslaught from above. To this day, psionics have been scouted for their talents and recruited to the Other Suppression Force (OSF), humanity’s last line of defense. Take on the role of Yuito Sumeragi, a new recruit to the OSF aiming to become an elite psionic like the one who saved him as a child. Armed with a talent in psycho-kinesis, explore the futuristic city of New Himuka and uncover the mysteries of a Brain Punk future caught between technology and psychic abilities in SCARLET NEXUS.
