What if Tony Montana survived? Scarface: The World Is Yours opens in the final shootout of the 1983 film, then breaks from the script: Tony senses the Skull behind him, guns him down, fights his way out of the mansion and escapes. Stripped of his money and his empire, he swears revenge on Alejandro Sosa, and the rest of the game is about clawing it all back in sun-baked, neon-lit 1980s Miami.

Radical Entertainment built an open-world crime game around that comeback. You buy out businesses and storefronts, defend them from rival gangs and keep the drug money flowing, all while juggling separate Gang Heat and Police Heat ratings that can be cooled by paying off the right people. Deals are struck with a timing meter that works like a golf swing, and a botched negotiation can turn a dealer into a gunfight. Boats let you run product along the coast, and later a float plane connects distant ports.

Combat leans hard into Tony's personality. Shooting, punching and trash-talking fill the Balls Meter, and when it is full you can trigger Blind Rage, a first-person frenzy where Tony becomes invulnerable, hits harder and regains health with every hit. Exotic purchases, from luxury objects to vehicles, raise Tony's reputation and make him feel like the kingpin he used to be. Al Pacino lent Tony his likeness, while Andre Sogliuzzo voices him with a convincing snarl.

Reviewers found it a strong pick for players who loved the open-world crime genre, even if the empire-building loop can turn repetitive over time. As a what-if sequel to one of the most quoted crime films ever made, published by Sierra in 2006 near the end of the original Xbox's life, it has real cult appeal, and it gives fans of the film the chance to finally say hello to Sosa on their own terms.

About the game

The game begins in the film's final scene, with Tony Montana's (Andre Sogliuzzo) mansion being raided by Alejandro Sosa's assassins. But this is the point of divergence from the film. Instead of being killed by the Skull, Tony manages to sense him and shoots him down. He fights through his mansion, with many deaths on both sides. In the ensuing chaos, Tony sneaks to the front of the mansion, barely alive, and manages to escape in his car. Sosa is then informed that Tony's mansion has been seized and his massive drug empire has been reduced to nothing. Hiding in a safehouse located outside of Miami, Tony regrets the decisions he has made but swears revenge on Sosa.
