Item Description
Take a trip back to the 80s, the 1880s that is. Rock Boshers DX casts a young Queen Victoria as the unlikely hero of a Martian adventure, stranded on the Red Planet and forced to blast, dig and bosh her way home, with time out for tea and scones. Developed by the small British studio Tikipod, it is a love letter to the home computers of the early 1980s, with chunky, bright pixel art and chiptune audio that feel lifted straight from a cassette-loaded game of the era.
Underneath the period jokes is a tight arcade shooter. Victoria fights through enemy swarms with twin-stick controls, smashing through rock to open new paths, collecting what she needs to complete each mission and surviving hazards that pile up quickly. Levels are short and punchy, perfect for a quick session, but they get properly tough, and the urge to replay for a cleaner run sets in fast. The humor runs through everything, from Victoria's stiff-upper-lip dialogue to the absurdity of a Victorian monarch with a blaster.
Rock Boshers DX is a niche indie release on PlayStation 4, made for players who grew up with 8-bit computers or simply love the retro aesthetic done with real affection. It is a quirky, charming curiosity that stands out on a shelf full of blockbusters, and an easy reminder of how much fun a simple premise and tight controls can still be.
