Item Description
Old Detroit has a new drug on the streets, and the only cop who cannot be bought is half machine. RoboCop 2 picked up the story of Alex Murphy as he goes after Cain, the cult-like dealer behind the designer drug Nuke, while OCP schemes to replace him with a bigger, deadlier cyborg. Ocean, the publisher that had already turned the first RoboCop into a hit game, brought it to the Game Boy in 1991.
The Game Boy version plays as a side-scrolling shooter with platforming, sending RoboCop through the city's grim, crime-ridden levels with his sidearm drawn and waves of criminals and hostile machines in his way. It suits the character well: RoboCop is not nimble, but he is relentless, and the game rewards a steady, deliberate advance more than a reckless run.
Ocean built a whole run of RoboCop games across 8-bit computers and consoles in this period, and the Game Boy entries are an intriguing corner of it, scaled down to a monochrome screen but still carrying the franchise's hard-edged, satirical tone.
