Item Description
The job description is simple: you are a Morty clone, Rick needs his laundry done, and things go downhill from there. Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality comes from Owlchemy Labs, the studio behind Job Simulator, working with Adult Swim Games, and it brings that studio's hands-on, everything-is-interactive approach to virtual reality into the show's gloriously unhinged universe. On PlayStation 4 it is designed for PlayStation VR.
Most of the game takes place in Rick's garage, a cluttered lab stuffed with gadgets you can grab, combine, break and misuse. Chores escalate quickly, from loading the washing machine with delicates to plunging a toilet, and soon you are building strange devices at the workbench and stepping through portals into short side scenarios, including one in Earth's orbit. Mirror-image clones help you reach objects beyond your grasp, and hidden cassette tapes and Easter eggs reward fans who poke into every corner.
The humor is the main event. Rick's insults, Morty's panic and plenty of fourth-wall-breaking jokes play out around you rather than on a screen, and the writing captures the show's tone, right down to a closing rant about the game itself. The campaign is short, a couple of hours for most players, but post-game challenges add replay value for trophy hunters.
Licensed VR games rarely understand their source this well. For PSVR owners who love the series, it is an easy recommendation, and as a physical PlayStation VR release it is a fun, slightly absurd piece of the platform's history.
