Item Description
Counters are a resource, and Resourceful Defense makes sure you never waste them. Whenever a permanent you control leaves the battlefield with counters on it, this three-mana white enchantment puts those counters on another target permanent you control. A creature loaded with +1/+1 counters dies to removal, and all that growth simply lands on a survivor.
Its second ability turns it into an engine. For five mana you can move any number of counters from one of your permanents onto another whenever you like, consolidating a spread-out board into one huge evasive attacker or shifting counters off a creature that is about to be exiled. It works with counters of any kind, so shield counters and other New Capenna-style tricks come along for the ride, and it slots neatly into sacrifice decks that grow a creature, cash it in and keep the stats. Commanders like Reyhan, Last of the Abzan, who already reward passing counters around, make it even better.
It comes from New Capenna Commander, the 2022 preconstructed decks released alongside Streets of New Capenna, with art by Francis Tneh; this listing is non-foil.
