Item Description

A luxury liner adrift at sea, its passengers turned into the walking dead, and a terrorist threatening missile strikes: Resident Evil: Dead Aim takes Capcom's outbreak far from Raccoon City. In 2002, four years after that city's destruction, former Umbrella employee Morpheus D. Duvall steals the t-Virus from a Paris lab, unleashes it aboard the Umbrella-owned ship Spencer Rain and demands a $5 billion ransom from the United States and China. Two agents go after him separately: Bruce McGivern, a U.S. government operative, and Fong Ling of China's Ministry of State Security.

Known in Japan as Gun Survivor 4, Dead Aim is the fourth game in Capcom's light-gun spin-off line, and IGN called it the best of the bunch. Its big idea is a hybrid camera. You explore in classic third-person Resident Evil fashion, then the view snaps to first-person the moment you raise your weapon so you can line up shots with a center dot. Unlike the mainline games of the era, you can move while aiming, and the game was built to support the GunCon 2 light gun and a USB mouse for a more arcade-style feel. Ammunition is still scarce and zombies are still hard to put down for good, so every shot counts.

The nightmare doesn't stay on the ship. The Spencer Rain collides with an island hiding an abandoned Umbrella facility once used to dispose of failed bio-weapons, and the hunt for Morpheus leads through its waterways and down to an underwater Bio-Sphere housing the missile silo. Developed by Cavia, it keeps the franchise's puzzles and resource management while leaning harder into shooting, and Morpheus's eventual transformation is pure Resident Evil spectacle.

Reviews were mixed, but even critics who rolled their eyes at the dialogue admired how boldly it blended survival horror with first-person gunplay, and it plays like nothing else in the series. A PS2-only side story with its own cast, ship and island, it fills a gap many Resident Evil shelves leave open, and owning it sealed preserves it exactly as it sat in stores in 2003.

About the game

Resident Evil: Dead Aim is a survival-horror game released exclusively for the PlayStation 2 under the Gun Survivor title, which was used for several games made for the Namco light gun controllers. The game is played in two camera angles: the player moves from a third-person perspective while walking, which changes to a first-person perspective while aiming the gun. You'll pick up several guns through the course of the game, including a magnum, a shotgun, and an assault rifle. But like in other Resident Evil games, zombies are difficult to put down permanently and ammo can be very scarce.
