“What're ya buyin'?” If that line brings back memories, you already know why Resident Evil 4 changed everything. Shinji Mikami and Capcom Production Studio 4 tore up the survival horror rulebook in 2005, and this Wii Edition, released in 2007, is a favorite way to play it, with pointer aiming that makes every shot feel immediate.
Leon S. Kennedy, now a government agent, travels to rural Spain to rescue the President's daughter, Ashley Graham, from a cult called Los Illuminados. The villagers he meets are not zombies but Ganados, infected people who think, coordinate, swarm and wield pitchforks with frightening intent, and the opening village siege, with a chainsaw-wielding Dr. Salvador closing in, still ranks among the most intense set pieces in the genre. From there the campaign roars through a castle ruled by the diminutive Ramon Salazar, a lake monster battle, an encounter with the towering El Gigante and a military island, all paced with near-perfect escalation. The over-the-shoulder camera it introduced shaped a generation of action games.
On Wii, the Remote replaces the original laser sight with a wider on-screen reticle that turns from green to red when it finds a target, and aiming becomes as quick as pointing. A quick-knife command targets the nearest enemy or object automatically, motion gestures handle certain quick-time events, and the Classic Controller is supported for players who prefer the original control style and laser sight back. Leon's animations run a touch faster as well, and the visuals match the GameCube original.
This edition also gathers the bonus content first added on PlayStation 2, including Separate Ways, a side campaign that follows Ada Wong through the events of Leon's mission, alongside the arcade-style Mercenaries mode. With the full package on one disc and controls that suit it so well, the Wii Edition is a superb way to experience Leon's trip to Spain on original hardware.

Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition includes the bonus content from the PlayStation 2 version and introduces several changes to accommodate the Wii Remote's motion controls. The aiming system features a larger reticle that changes from green to red when targeting an enemy, replacing the original narrow laser sight. A “quick knife” command is added, allowing automatic targeting of the nearest enemy or object, and motion-sensitive quick-time events supplement traditional button prompts. Visually, the game is comparable to the original GameCube version and generally improves upon the lower-resolution graphics of the PlayStation 2 release. However, a few graphical elements—such as low-detail herb models—appear to be carried over from the PS2 version. The Wii Edition also supports the classic controller, restoring traditional controls and the original laser sight aiming. Additional differences include a lower overall difficulty and slightly faster animations for Leon’s actions.
