Item Description

The sun is blinding, the village square is crowded, and every person in it has just turned to stare at you. Resident Evil 5 stages its horror in broad daylight, sending BSAA agent Chris Redfield into the Kijuju region of Africa, where a new parasite has turned locals into the Majini: fast, organized, weapon-wielding enemies who flank, swarm and climb in a way the series' old shambling zombies never could. Capcom built it on the over-the-shoulder foundation of Resident Evil 4 and pushed it toward bigger, louder set pieces.

The defining change is a partner. Chris is joined by fellow BSAA agent Sheva Alomar for the entire campaign, and the game is designed around two people sharing ammunition, trading herbs, boosting each other up to ledges and pulling one another out of the dying state before it is too late. With a second player beside you in split-screen co-op it becomes a tense, chatty survival exercise, and the trail through the Tricell corporation, the scheming Excella Gionne and the return of Albert Wesker gives longtime fans a big payoff to the series' oldest rivalry.

Gold Edition is Capcom's 2010 re-release that folds the game's add-on content into one package. Lost in Nightmares sends Chris and Jill Valentine into Ozwell Spencer's estate for a slower, creakier chapter that deliberately echoes the mansion of the original game, while Desperate Escape follows Jill and Josh Stone fighting their way out of a Tricell facility in the closing hours of the main story. It also brings Versus mode, The Mercenaries Reunion with new characters and costumes for the score-attack mode, and extra outfits such as Chris's Warrior and Sheva's Fairy Tale costumes. On PlayStation 3, Gold Edition also supports the PlayStation Move controller.

That combination makes it the version of Resident Evil 5 to have on the shelf: the full co-op blockbuster plus the episode where Chris and Jill go back to where it all started, together in one release. Few entries capture the series' leap into action-horror spectacle as completely, and few are as much fun with a friend on the couch.

About the game

Resident Evil 5 is the seventh video game in the Resident Evil series. It features similar gameplay to Resident Evil 4 utilizing the same over the shoulder view, but this time the environment plays a significant role. The player is now dependent on his partner more than in older games. When the partner's health bar drop down to 0, he will enter the dying stage where the health bar will flash red and gradually lower as he stays like this. Resident Evil 5 also features new types of enemies called Majini and mostly are of African descent.
