Item Description

"What're ya buyin'?" The Merchant's greeting is one of the first signs that Capcom's 2023 Resident Evil 4 understands exactly what made the original special. Six years after Raccoon City, Leon S. Kennedy is sent to a remote, Spanish-speaking village to rescue the president's daughter, Ashley Graham, from the Los Iluminados cult, and within minutes he is running for his life as a mob of infected Ganados closes in. Rebuilt in Capcom's RE Engine, the remake keeps the shape of the 2005 classic while sharpening nearly every part of it.

The action is faster and more tactical than before. Leon can now move while aiming, crouch to sneak past enemies or take them out silently, and use his knife to parry attacks, including blows that would have been impossible to stop in the original. The knife wears down with use, the attaché case inventory still turns packing into a puzzle, and the Merchant's weapon upgrades let you build an arsenal around the way you like to play. Blue request notes add side objectives that reward exploring every corner.

The journey from the village to Ramon Salazar's castle and on to the island is as memorable as ever, with Bitores Mendez, Ada Wong and Jack Krauser all reimagined. Luis Sera's role is expanded, Ashley is a more fleshed-out companion, and the tone leans darker and more dread-filled while still finding room for the series' trademark one-liners. Many encounters have been rearranged, so even players who know the original by heart will find themselves surprised.

The original Resident Evil 4 shaped a generation of over-the-shoulder action games, and this remake proved that a modern rebuild could honor it without simply copying it. It was a Game of the Year nominee at The Game Awards 2023, and on PS5 it is the version to play if you want Leon's most famous mission with modern controls, richer atmosphere and every set piece reworked for today.
