Game only: the cartridge in a protective holder, no box or manual. The photos are of this exact cartridge — look them over closely for its condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

No arms, no legs, no neck, and somehow more expressive than almost any mascot of his generation. Rayman's floating hands and feet, giant grin and helicopter hair made him an instant star when Michel Ancel's original platformer appeared in 1995, and Rayman Advance brought that game to the Game Boy Advance in 2001 with its hand-drawn look intact. Ported by Digital Eclipse for Ubisoft and released in the system's launch window, it showed early adopters just how good 2D art could look on the new handheld.

The setup is pure fairy tale. Mr. Dark has stolen the Great Protoon, defeated Betilla the Fairy and scattered the Electoons across the land in cages, and Rayman sets out to free them. Along the way Betilla grants him new powers, including his telescopic fist, the ability to grab and swing from rings and that famous helicopter hair, so the game keeps opening up as you play. The worlds are a big part of the charm: the Dream Forest, the drums, trumpets and musical notes of Band Land, the Blue Mountains, the pencils and erasers of Picture City, the Caves of Skops and the Candy Château, with bosses like Moskito, Mr. Sax and Space Mama guarding the way.

It is also famously tough. Every Electoon cage has to be found and broken before Mr. Dark's lair opens up, many are hidden off the obvious path, and the later stages demand precise jumps and patience. That challenge is a big reason the original still has such a devoted following: beating Rayman is something players remember.

This is the game that launched Ubisoft's limbless hero, before Rayman 2 took him into 3D and the Raving Rabbids stole the spotlight, and Rayman Advance is the way to carry it in your pocket. On a Game Boy Advance it is one of the platform's best-looking early cartridges and a gorgeous, demanding test of classic 2D platforming skill.
