Item Description

Little Red Riding Hood carries daggers in Ravenswatch, and when the sun goes down she stops running from the wolf because she becomes it. That twist sets the tone for Passtech Games' co-op roguelite, which gathers heroes from fairy tales, myths and legends and recasts them as darker, more violent versions of themselves to save the dream world of Reverie from an invasion of nightmares.

Nine heroes are available on Switch, and each plays like a different game. Scarlet is a fast, slashing duelist who turns into a hulking werewolf at night. Beowulf is a heavy-hitting brawler, the Pied Piper handles like a twin-stick shooter, and the Snow Queen freezes enemies solid and skates across her own ice. Aladdin, Melusine, Geppetto, Sun Wukong and Carmilla round out the cast, so there is always another way to play the next run.

Runs are built around a clock. You explore a large, randomly generated map across three days and three nights, clearing camps, rescuing characters and grabbing magical items, then face the chapter's Nightmare boss, ready or not. Every level-up offers a choice of talents from a deep pool, and with a large set of magical objects in the mix, builds can spiral into wonderfully broken combinations. Several difficulty levels let you tune the challenge, and the game was built around co-op for up to four players, with shared raven feathers serving as the team's extra lives.

Passtech previously made the acclaimed Curse of the Dead Gods, and Ravenswatch carries over that studio's knack for tight, readable combat, now wrapped in chunky, storybook art with a grim edge. Following its Steam launch and later arrival on other consoles, the Legendary Edition brought it to Switch, where a run feels just as good in handheld mode as on the TV. It is a roguelite that looks like a cursed picture book and plays like a brawler, and part of the fun is learning just how differently the same nightmare can feel through each hero's eyes.
