Item Description
Ravages of War does one thing, and it is one of the most dramatic things a sorcery can do: for four mana, it destroys all lands. Every land on the battlefield, yours included.
Played well, that is a reset button tilted in your favor. It is a functional twin of the infamous Armageddon, and it shares that card's classic role as the finisher for white aggro: develop a board of cheap creatures, then wipe the mana out from under everyone and let your attackers do the work while opponents rebuild from nothing. Mana rocks, creatures already in play and anything that survives the reset keep you ahead, and the game bends toward your plan for several turns. It is the kind of card that starts a conversation at any Commander table, so it pays to know your playgroup.
The card first appeared in Portal Three Kingdoms in 1999, the introductory set inspired by China's Three Kingdoms period. This is the Judge Promos printing, the foil version given out through the 2015 Judge Gift program to the judges who keep organized play running.
