Item Description

Ratchet & Clank arrived on the PlayStation 2 in 2002 and immediately announced itself as one of the finest platformers the console generation had to offer. Developed by Insomniac Games, it introduced players to a scrappy Lombax mechanic named Ratchet and his unlikely robot companion Clank, kicking off a franchise that would span decades and multiple PlayStation platforms. The original game set the template for everything that followed — massive, imaginatively designed planets to explore, an arsenal of wildly inventive weapons, and a sense of humor sharp enough to rival anything Pixar was putting out at the time.

What made Ratchet & Clank stand out in a crowded field of early PS2 platformers was its commitment to both spectacle and substance. The weapons system gave you gadgets like the Devastator, the Blaster, and the wonderfully absurd Sheepinator, each upgradable and satisfying to use in completely different ways. The worlds themselves were dense with secrets, collectibles, and side missions that rewarded curiosity and thoroughness. It was the kind of game that felt genuinely generous — always offering more to find just around the next corner.

Visually, it pushed the PlayStation 2 hardware in ways that still hold up as impressively ambitious for the era. The character designs are full of personality, from the gruff Captain Qwark to the parade of alien creatures you encounter across the galaxy. Insomniac's art direction gave every planet its own visual identity, making the journey feel like a real interplanetary adventure rather than a series of interchangeable levels.

The Greatest Hits red-label release is the widely circulated version that kept this game in players' hands throughout the PS2's lifespan, and it remains the most common way to encounter the original title in the wild today. For collectors building out a complete PS2 library, or for anyone who wants the first chapter of one of Sony's most beloved platformer series, this is a great copy to own.

This one is perfect for PS2 collectors, fans of Insomniac Games, and anyone who wants to revisit the game that started it all for Ratchet and Clank. It also makes a fantastic introduction for younger players discovering classic PlayStation platformers for the first time.
