Paris looks enormous when you are a rat. Ratatouille puts you in control of Remy, the rodent with a gourmet's nose, and sends him scurrying through the kitchens, markets and sewers of Pixar's 2007 film, with Patton Oswalt and other members of the movie's voice cast reprising their roles. On the PlayStation 2 the game was built by Asobo Studio, which created its own levels and missions around a story that follows the film loosely rather than scene by scene.
The adventure opens with Remy and his brother Emile on a road trip that teaches the basics, from fetching apple cores to grabbing the cookbook, before the action moves into the city. From there the jobs get bolder: raiding the cooler for food, helping Linguini fill special orders, shutting off the gas to send the chefs scrambling and leading the colony on heists at the market. Between missions you can explore the sewers, find a bonus level and decorate the colony's home, while a vision of Gusteau, conjured from his cookbook, urges Remy on with the hope of winning back the restaurant's lost star.
Critics found it a solid, if safe, platformer, but the game had admirers where it counted: it won the Annie Award for Best Animated Video Game and shipped nearly four million copies across its many versions. That success makes sense. A tiny rat loose in a giant human world is a natural fit for platforming, and the film's warm humor survives the jump to the PS2. It is a gentle, approachable adventure for younger players and a fun way to step back into one of Pixar's most charming worlds on the console so many families had under the TV in 2007.

About the game
Ratatouille is based on the Pixar film of the same name. The version by Asobo Studio is, like other versions, a 3D platform game, but has its own design, levels and missions. The game follows the plot of the film only loosely, but has the main voice cast from the movie reprising their roles. The player controls Remy, a rat with a refined sense of taste. When Remy finds himself in Paris near the restaurant of the famous deceased chef Gusteau, he works on making his dream of becoming a chef himself come true, while helping out his fellow rats to procure food.
