Item Condition

Complete in box: the cartridge, the manual and the box, all original. Original inserts or paperwork shown in the photos are included; display stands and other photography props are not. The photos are of this exact cartridge — look them over closely for its condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Every giant-monster movie eventually gets to the good part, when the creature reaches downtown and starts taking it apart. Rampage skips straight to that part and never leaves. Bally Midway's 1986 arcade hit cast players as George the gorilla, Lizzie the lizard and Ralph the wolf, and the Master System cartridge brings that gleeful demolition derby home.

The loop is readable in seconds. Scale the side of a building, punch through its windows and walls until the whole structure folds into a cloud of rubble, and leap clear before it takes you down with it. Soldiers fire from the windows, helicopters swoop in close and tanks roll along the street, and swatting them aside is half the satisfaction. Every hit chips away at your health, so the trick is to keep moving and keep smashing rather than lingering on one rooftop too long.

The real reason to play Rampage is the second controller. Two players can wreck a skyline at the same time, working together to flatten a block faster or quietly punching each other off the ledges, and that friendly sabotage is where the game comes alive. The cartridge tours ten cities of five stages each, a trimmed-down trip compared with the arcade's marathon cross-country route, but plenty for an evening of couch chaos.

Sega handled the conversion itself, and the big, detailed monster sprites are the highlight, often counted among the better 8-bit takes on Rampage. It is a short-burst game rather than a deep one, and it works best exactly that way: loud, simple, two-player destruction that captures why the arcade original became such a hit in the first place.
