Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Pyrohemia is a furnace you control the temperature of. Each time you pay {R}, it deals 1 damage to each creature and each player, and you can keep feeding it mana as long as you like. One activation sweeps away tokens and mana creatures; five activations clear most boards and take a bite out of every life total at the table, including yours.
It began life in Planar Chaos as red's color-shifted version of the classic black Pestilence, and it keeps that card's famous drawback: at the beginning of the end step, if no creatures are on the battlefield, it gets sacrificed. Smart Pyrohemia decks play around that with high-toughness or indestructible creatures that survive the flames, and Stuffy Doll turns each activation into extra damage aimed at a chosen player. In Commander it gives red a repeatable sweeper you can dial up or down to kill exactly as much as you want.
This is the Commander Anthology printing, collector number 86, illustrated by Stephen Tappin, in non-foil. Commander Anthology collected several earlier Commander preconstructed decks in one box, bringing this enchantment back for multiplayer tables.
