Item Description
Somewhere in the Earth Kingdom, a cabbage merchant is having a very bad day again. This Putrefy comes from the Secret Lair x Avatar: The Last Airbender "My Cabbages" drop, built around the show's long-suffering vendor whose cart keeps getting wrecked. Pairing that running gag with a spell that turns things to rot is a lovely bit of comedy.
Underneath the joke is serious removal. For one generic, one black and one green mana, at instant speed, Putrefy destroys target artifact or creature, and it can't be regenerated. Being able to hit either a creature or an artifact is why it has been a Golgari mainstay since the Ravnica era, covering everything from an opposing commander to a mana rock in Commander games.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 2299, a borderless foil illustrated by Yosuke Adachi. Its flavor text nods to the merchant's famous lament, which makes it an easy choice for an Avatar fan's Golgari deck.
