Item Description
The 1990 film moved the hunt out of the jungle and into a sweltering, gang-ruled city, and this Game Gear cartridge goes straight for that concrete-jungle chaos. You are Lt. Mike Harrigan, the cop Danny Glover played on screen, caught in the middle of a drug war while something with a three-dot laser sight watches from the shadows.
Each stage is a race to rescue hostages while the gangs keep coming, and Harrigan can grab heavier firepower like shotguns and machine guns to thin the crowd. The clock is the clever twist: linger too long and the Predator's tri-laser picks off the hostage you were trying to save, so you are always splitting your attention between the thugs in front of you and the hunter you cannot quite see. At the end of each level the Predator himself steps out of the shadows as the boss. Downed gang members drop drugs that are scooped up and shipped off to the drug squad for points, a wonderfully early-'90s touch.
Teeny Weeny Games built the 8-bit Game Gear and Master System versions as side-scrollers, a different game from the isometric Genesis release. It is fair to call this a licensed-game artifact rather than a lost gem.
That is precisely its charm today. Predator 2 is a pocket-sized snapshot of the era when every action movie got a cartridge, with a premise lifted straight from the film and a hostage-rescue structure that gives the shooting a purpose. Next to the Genesis release on a Predator shelf, it rounds out the 8-bit side of the license.

About the game
Predator 2 is a 1992 second video game adaptation of the film of the same title, developed by Perfect 10 Productions and Teeny Weeny Games and published by Acclaim Entertainment. It was released for the Sega Genesis, Game Gear, and Master System. The game is played in a third-person isometric view, with great swarms of easily-killed bad guys, who appear through one-way doors scattered throughout the level. Weapons not only include faster machine guns and shotguns, but also a few highly-advanced Predator weapons the player can pick up and use. Each defeated gang member drops drugs that can be picked up and automatically sent off to the "drug squad" for points. No sounds or music from the film get used, but stills scenes from the film do introduce the levels.
