Item Description

A British pilot, a wandering samurai and a ninja crash around a fully interactive arena, ripping up tables, swinging from poles and fighting over three glowing gems. That is Power Stone, Capcom's free-roaming answer to the traditional one-on-one fighter, and Power Stone Collection puts both games in the series on a single PSP disc. The original hit arcades on Sega's NAOMI hardware and the Dreamcast in 1999, Power Stone 2 followed in 2000, and Capcom bundled the pair for the PSP in 2006, released in Japan as Power Stone Portable.

The hook is freedom of movement. Fights happen in fully 3D arenas where you can climb, jump, swing around posts and pick up almost anything that is not bolted down to throw at an opponent. Three Power Stones scatter across each stage, and collecting all three triggers a Power Change, transforming your fighter into a supercharged alter ego with devastating special attacks for a short window. Every match turns into a frantic scramble to grab gems, knock them loose from a rival and stay out of reach until the transformation wears off.

The original's cast of 19th-century adventurers, including Edward Falcon, Ryoma, Ayame, Wang-Tang, Rouge and Gunrock, is all here, and on PSP the first game also adds the four newcomers from Power Stone 2: Pride, Accel, Gourmand and Julia. The sequel is the bigger, wilder game, raising the chaos to four fighters at once on multi-tier stages that shift and collapse as the battle goes on, and adding an Adventure mode where you trade and combine items into new weapons.

The collection drew a range of reviews, with Retro Gamer scoring it 90 percent, and the series then sat out the better part of two decades before resurfacing in Capcom Fighting Collection 2 in 2025. For years this PSP set was the only portable way to play both games, and it still captures why Dreamcast fans talk about Power Stone so fondly: a fighting game where the arena matters as much as the fighters, and where the most skilled player in the room can still be flattened by a well-timed flying table.
