Item Description
Mail wants to be a bounty hunter. She has the attitude, she has the sword and she has absolutely no patience for anyone who gets in the way of a payday. She is about to get far more than she bargained for, because the Black Seal is about to break and unleash Kazyr, Necros and Ulgar, three ancient evils that nearly destroyed her world once already. It is a big, dramatic fantasy setup delivered with a grin, and that mix of real adventure and constant comedy is exactly what makes Popful Mail so much fun.
Originally a Falcom computer game, Popful Mail was rebuilt for Sega's CD hardware as a side-scrolling action RPG with a real sense of momentum. You run, jump and slash your way through forests, caves and towns, buy better gear in shops, and hunt for the maniacal Muttonhead, who holds all the answers, while Nuts Cracker and the minions of evil do everything they can to stop you. The twist is the three-hero party. You can swap at any moment between Mail and her quick blade, Tatt, an ultra-polite apprentice magician with a staff, and Gaw, a winged blue creature who breathes fire, and choosing the right character for each enemy and obstacle is the heart of the game.
The CD format is what turns it into a showpiece. Popful Mail is packed with fully voiced dialogue and animated cutscenes, and the cast leans into every punchline. Working Designs handled the English release with the same sharp, joke-dense writing and voice direction that made its Lunar games famous, giving every exchange between Mail, Tatt and Gaw a bickering, sitcom-like energy.
Between the Falcom pedigree, the Working Designs localization and action that still moves at a good clip, Popful Mail is a highlight of the Sega CD's RPG lineup and a natural companion to the Lunar games on the shelf. It is the version English-speaking players know, and the place to meet a heroine whose mouth is as quick as her sword.

About the game
Kazyr, Necros, Ulgar. Ghosts from the past that nearly once destroyed Popful Mail's world. Now, the Black Seal is about to be broken so they can return to wreak havoc on the world once again. Three ragtag adventurers become the only hope of stopping the second coming of Evil. Play as Mail, tomboy bounty-hunter wannabe who's handy with a blade, Tatt, the ultra-polite apprentice magician with a deadly staff, or Gaw, a winged blue blob with breath of fire, as you search for the manicial Muttonhead, who holds all the answers. During your quest, change characters at any time! You'll need to, because Nuts Cracker and the minions of Evil will stop at nothing to end your party before it starts! And, thanks to the storage power of CD, Popful Mail comes alive with over 2.5 hours of spoken dialogue and 20 minutes of heart-pounding animation. Face it, your butt's gonna be glued to the couch till the credits roll!
