For the first time in the main series, Game Freak made a true sequel. Pokémon White Version 2 picks up two years after Black and White, and the Unova you remember has moved on without you. New towns have sprung up in the southwest, familiar routes have changed, Team Plasma has split into rival camps, and old faces have new jobs. Cheren, once your rival, is now the Gym Leader of Aspertia City, the town where your new journey begins.
This time the heroes are Nate and Rosa, and your rival is Hugh, a hot-headed trainer with a personal score to settle with Team Plasma. The road through Unova mixes new stops like Virbank City, Lentimas Town and Humilau City with returning favorites such as Castelia and Nimbasa, and the regional Pokédex is far broader than the original's all-new lineup, so Pokémon from earlier generations turn up from the opening routes. Kyurem sits at the center of the story, and White 2's mascot is White Kyurem, the fearsome form it takes when it fuses with Reshiram. Iris, the young dragon tamer, now waits at the end as Champion, and N returns with a part to play.
Where White 2 really stretches out is its side content. The Pokémon World Tournament in Driftveil City lets you face Gym Leaders and Champions from every region the series had visited, from Kanto's Brock to Sinnoh's Cynthia, the kind of dream matchup fans had imagined since childhood. Pokéstar Studios casts you and your Pokémon in delightfully cheesy movies, Join Avenue grows into a bustling shopping street run by people you meet, and Hidden Grottoes tucked around the region hide Pokémon with rare Hidden Abilities.
Black 2 and White 2 arrived in 2012, late in the DS's life, as the final paired versions of Generation V and the last mainline adventures built in the series' sprite-based style before the jump to full 3D on the 3DS. Many fans rank them as the high point of Unova, thanks to a postgame packed with things to do and a region that finally feels lived in. If you finished Black or White and wondered what became of N, White 2 is the natural next step, and it is a rich, generous Pokémon adventure in its own right.
Pokémon White Version 2 and Pokémon Black Version 2 are the second and final paired versions of Generation V and are the sequels of Pokémon Black and White, respectively. Both games were revealed on Pokémon Smash! by Junichi Masuda, and subsequently the official Japanese and international Pokémon websites, on February 26, 2012. They were released in Japan on June 23, 2012, in North America on October 7, 2012, in Australia on October 11, 2012, in Europe on October 12, 2012 and in South Korea on November 8, 2012. The games feature two new forms of Kyurem that serve as the game mascots of the games: Black Kyurem for Black 2 and White Kyurem for White 2.
