Item Condition

Complete in box: the cartridge, the manual and the box, all original; anything beyond that is included only if you can see it in the photos. Look over the photos for condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Pokémon Sun opens with something the series had never really offered: a reason to slow down and soak in the scenery. The Alola region is a chain of tropical islands modeled on Hawaii, all beaches, volcanoes, rainforest and sleepy seaside towns, and Game Freak built a whole new structure around it. Instead of collecting Gym Badges, you take on the Island Challenge, a coming-of-age tradition in which young trainers clear trials set by Trial Captains, face down an oversized Totem Pokémon at the end of each one, and then battle each island's Kahuna in a Grand Trial.

That change in rhythm runs through the whole adventure. A trial might be a hunt through a cave, a spot-the-difference test or a mission to gather cooking ingredients before it ever becomes a fight, and the Totem battles, where the boss calls in allies mid-fight, are some of the toughest moments in the main story. Z-Moves give every team a once-per-battle super move powered by the Z-Ring and the Z-Crystals you earn along the way, and the Ride Pager finally retires the old HM system, letting you summon Tauros, Lapras or Charizard whenever the route calls for them. A chatty Rotom Pokédex rides along to keep you pointed in the right direction.

Alola is also home to some of the generation's best ideas. Alolan forms reimagine Kanto favorites for island life, so Exeggutor grows a towering palm-tree neck, Raichu surfs on its own tail and Marowak becomes a fire-twirling Ghost-type. Starters Rowlet, Litten and Popplio became instant fan favorites, and the story, following Lillie, the mysterious Pokémon she protects, the rowdy Team Skull and the polished Aether Foundation, carries more emotional weight than most Pokémon plots. At the summit of Mount Lanakila waits a brand-new Pokémon League and the chance to become Alola's very first Champion.

Sun's version Legendary is Solgaleo, the radiant Sunne Pokémon, and its day-night cycle follows the 3DS clock, while Moon runs twelve hours offset. Sun also holds its own Ultra Beasts, the muscle-bound Buzzwole and the paper-thin Kartana. Released in 2016, the series' 20th anniversary year, Sun and Moon were also the first Pokémon games playable in nine languages, adding Traditional and Simplified Chinese. This is the original Alola story exactly as players first met it, before Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon remixed it: a sunnier, stranger and more heartfelt Pokémon journey than anything that came before.
