Item Description

For two decades, every mainline Pokémon game sent you through eight Gyms and on to a Pokémon League. Pokémon Sun threw that blueprint out. The trip to Alola, a sun-drenched chain of four islands modeled on Hawaii, begins with a choice between Rowlet, Litten and Popplio and quickly becomes something new: the Island Challenge, a rite of passage where Trial Captains test you with scavenger hunts and puzzles before a showdown with a Totem Pokémon, a supersized boss wrapped in a glowing aura that summons help mid-battle.

The battle system grew in fun directions. Z-Moves let each Pokémon unleash a single devastating attack per fight, triggered by a Z-Crystal and a dramatic pose from your trainer, and Battle Royal throws four trainers into a free-for-all. The talking Rotom Dex rides along on the bottom screen, cracking jokes and pointing toward your next goal, and the game shows how effective your moves will be against Pokémon you have already met, a small change that makes battles friendlier for newcomers. Poké Ride retires the old HMs, letting you call on Charizard to fly, Lapras to surf or Machamp to shove boulders, and Pokémon Refresh lets you feed, groom and pet your team between fights.

Sun tells a warmer, more character-driven story than the generations before it. Professor Kukui is a shirtless, move-obsessed mentor, your rival Hau is endlessly upbeat, and Lillie, the quiet assistant guarding a strange Pokémon named Nebby, carries an arc with real emotional weight. Team Skull's posturing grunts and their leader Guzma bring comic swagger, while the Aether Foundation hides something far less funny. Sun's version-exclusive lineup centers on its cover legendary Solgaleo, the radiant lion of the sun, alongside Midday Form Lycanroc, Alolan Sandshrew and the Ultra Beasts Buzzwole and Kartana. Its clock runs in step with the real world, so the islands' days and nights match your own.

Even the finale is new. Alola has no Pokémon League when you arrive, and claiming the title of its very first Champion means defending it against challengers from then on. Sun is where the series proved it could still surprise players twenty years in, with Solgaleo blazing on the cover and an island adventure that feels like a vacation with stakes.
