Item Description

Few remakes feel as generous as Pokémon Omega Ruby. Game Freak took Hoenn, the region first explored in Pokémon Ruby on the Game Boy Advance, and rebuilt it in full 3D for the Nintendo 3DS with a richness that looks the way the world felt when you played it as a kid. The sweeping routes, the deep-sea diving and the volcanic drama of Groudon's awakening all come alive here in a way the original hardware never could manage.

The core of what made Hoenn special is intact. You still set out from Littleroot Town, still trade a friendly rivalry with May or Brendan, still carve through eight gyms, and still face down Team Magma, whose leader Maxie wants to awaken Groudon and expand the land. That showdown now builds to Primal Groudon, a reborn form created for the remakes, and Mega Evolution is woven through the journey, giving Swampert, Sceptile, Blaziken, Salamence and Metagross dramatic new forms.

Soaring is the showstopper. Play the Eon Flute and Mega Latios carries you across an open sky above Hoenn, swooping down to islands and mirage spots where legendaries from across the series wait, including Ho-Oh in this version. The DexNav lets you hunt hidden Pokémon in tall grass for rare abilities and moves, Super Secret Bases can be decorated and shared, and Contest Spectaculars put a dazzling spin on Pokémon showmanship.

The post-game is exceptional by any Pokémon standard. The Delta Episode, an original story that begins after the credits roll, introduces the mysterious Zinnia and centers on a world-threatening meteoroid, Rayquaza and the mythical Deoxys, giving Omega Ruby a sense of scope that goes far beyond a straightforward remake. Paired with Alpha Sapphire it completes Hoenn's land-and-sea rivalry; on its own, it is the Groudon half of the region in its finest form, and the best way to experience Hoenn today.

About the game

During your adventure, you will battle Team Magma in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Team Aqua in Pokémon Alpha Sapphire. Team Magma seeks to increase the land, while Team Aqua wishes to increase the seas. In order to bring about these grand plans, each will turn to the power of a Legendary Pokémon: Groudon or Kyogre. Team Magma pursues Groudon, while Team Aqua goes after Kyogre. What could be driving them to such lengths?
