Item Description
You wake up as a Pokémon with no memory of ever being human, and the world around you is in trouble. Natural disasters are tearing at the land, mystery dungeons are swallowing the unwary, and the Pokémon of this human-free world have formed rescue teams to save each other. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX is Spike Chunsoft's 2020 Switch remake of Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team from the Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS, repainted in soft watercolor visuals that make every forest and cave look like a page from a storybook.
Who you become is part of the fun. A personality quiz at the start suggests which Pokémon you will be, and you pick a partner to found your team with. From your base near Pokémon Square, where the Kecleon brothers run the shop and Makuhita's dojo offers training, you take jobs from the bulletin board and dive into dungeons whose floors are randomly generated on every visit. Movement and combat happen one square at a time on a turn-based grid, so type matchups, item management and knowing when to bail out all matter, and an Auto mode speeds through the walking when you just want to reach the stairs.
The story is what people remember most. Between rescue jobs, a mystery builds around your transformation and the spreading disasters, drawing in the scheming Team Meanies led by Gengar, the famous Team ACT led by Alakazam, and an old legend about Ninetales, before building to a climb up Sky Tower that players still talk about. Its themes of friendship and loyalty hit harder than you might expect from a spin-off, and the bond with your partner carries real weight by the finale.
DX layers in fresh ideas for returning players, including camps to house the Pokémon you recruit, Mega Evolution and Rare Qualities that give certain teammates special perks. With its watercolor makeover it ranks among the prettiest Pokémon games on Switch, and it is a warm, approachable roguelike for players who grew up with the Rescue Team originals and want to relive that first expedition with a partner at their side.

Build a rescue team to take on mysterious, changing dungeons and strategically plan your moves as you venture forth to make the Pokémon world a safer place…and uncover your true purpose along the way. As you recruit Pokémon, these trusty teammates will need somewhere to stay, so build camps to house, manage, and strengthen your Pokémon friends. Think hard about who is right for the job and how to approach each mysterious dungeon as you prepare a rescue team. You’ll move a single square at a time or use Auto mode to speed up movement until you engage other Pokémon in turn-based battles—but don’t forget about Pokémon strengths and weaknesses! This version adds gorgeous watercolor-inspired graphics, and more! Get comfortable in being a Pokémon, there’s a lot of work to do.
