Complete in box: the cartridge, the manual and the box, all original; anything beyond that is included only if you can see it in the photos. The photos are of this exact copy — look them over closely for its condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.
Rayquaza on the cover tells you this is not simply Ruby and Sapphire with a new coat of paint. Pokemon Emerald is Hoenn's third version, in the tradition of Yellow and Crystal before it, and Game Freak used it to rethink the region's story. Instead of facing just one villainous team, you confront both Team Magma and Team Aqua, and their schemes wake both Groudon and Kyogre. The two ancient Pokemon clash over Sootopolis City, and only Rayquaza, waiting at the top of Sky Pillar, can end it. The result feels bigger and more urgent than either of the games it builds on.
Hoenn itself is a wonderful place to explore: tropical routes, wide stretches of open sea, underwater paths you reach by diving, volcanic ash fields and the hidden spots where you can build a Secret Base. Emerald adds plenty of its own touches. Every Pokemon now animates as it enters battle, Wallace takes over as Champion, a tag battle alongside Steven Stone raises the stakes in the late game, and filling out the Hoenn Pokedex earns you a choice of the Johto starters.
The real reason Emerald has kept players busy for two decades is the Battle Frontier. It replaces the lone Battle Tower of Ruby and Sapphire with a whole island of facilities, each with its own rules and its own Frontier Brain to defeat. The Battle Factory has you battling with rented Pokemon, the Battle Pyramid turns battling into a dungeon crawl through darkened floors, and others test luck, stamina and team building in completely different ways. It is post-game content with real depth, and plenty of trainers spent more time there than in the main story.
Released in Japan in 2004 and North America in 2005, Emerald trades and battles with Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed and LeafGreen, by link cable or the Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter. If you are going to own one Hoenn adventure on its original hardware, this is the version that holds the most story, the most post-game challenge and the most reasons to come back.
Pokémon Emerald Version is a sister game to Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Emerald Version provided the main storyline with more depth and length, as well as making small aesthetic changes to the world and adding unique animations for each Pokémon.
