Item Description

Pokémon Diamond is one of the landmark entries in the Pokémon franchise, bringing the series into a new generation on the Nintendo DS with a level of depth and polish that captivated millions of players worldwide. Developed by Game Freak and released in Japan in 2006 and in North America in April 2007, Diamond is set in the Sinnoh region, a sweeping landscape based on Japan's Hokkaido island, and it introduced 107 new Pokémon alongside returning favorites, building a world that felt both familiar and thrillingly fresh. Together, Diamond and Pearl have sold around 18 million units worldwide.

Gameplay strikes the classic balance the series is known for: an engaging main quest that walks you through Gym battles, rival encounters and a climactic showdown with the villainous Team Galactic, whose boss Cyrus plans to use the power of Dialga, the legendary on Diamond's cover, to create a new world for himself. It is all wrapped around the endlessly rewarding loop of catching, training and evolving your team. The physical/special split, which sorts each attack by how the individual move works rather than by its type, was a game-changer for competitive players and added strategic depth the series still benefits from today. The Underground, where players build secret bases and dig up treasure, and Pokémon Contests add extra layers that kept players busy long after the credits rolled.

The Nintendo DS hardware is well suited to Diamond's design. The bottom screen hosts the Pokétch, a simulated smartwatch with apps such as a clock, a calculator and a map, keeping key information close at hand while battles and exploration play out above. In its day, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection added online features such as the Global Trade Station for trading with players around the world, building a global community at a time when that still felt remarkable on a handheld; the service has since been discontinued. Diamond remains the original way to experience Sinnoh, and one of the Nintendo DS's finest RPGs.

About the game

Pokémon Diamond Version and Pearl Version are role-playing games (RPGs) developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. With the enhanced remake Pokémon Platinum, the games comprise the fifth installment and fourth generation of the Pokémon series of RPGs. First released in Japan on September 28, 2006, the games were later released to North America, Australia, and Europe over the course of 2007. Like previous Pokémon games, Diamond and Pearl chronicle the adventures of a young Pokémon trainer as he/she trains and battles Pokémon while also thwarting the schemes of a criminal organization. The games add many new features, such as Internet play over the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and changes to battle mechanics and Pokémon Contests, along with addition of 107 new Pokémon. The games are independent of each other but feature largely the same plot and while both can be played separately, it is necessary to trade between them in order to complete the games' Pokédexes.
