Magic: The Gathering single: Plague Sliver. Our grade: Near Mint. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
A 5/5 for four mana sounds like a steal until you read the fine print, and Plague Sliver's fine print infects the whole hive. Every Sliver on the battlefield, including Slivers your opponents control, gains "At the beginning of your upkeep, this permanent deals 1 damage to you," so each one hurts its own controller every turn.
That makes it a double-edged hammer. In a black-based Sliver deck it is a huge body for the cost, and you can plan around the life loss by racing or gaining life back. Against an opponent's Sliver swarm it flips into a slow-acting curse that charges them a life for every Sliver they control, every turn. It first appeared in Time Spiral, the set that brought a fresh wave of Slivers to Magic, and it carries that block's taste for risky power.
This is the Secret Lair Drop printing, collector number 633, an extended-art foil Secret Lair bonus card illustrated by Dave Allsop; it is the standard foil version, not the Step-and-Compleat edition. The extended frame gives Allsop's artwork more room, and its flavor text lands the theme: "A sliver shares everything with its hive—even its afflictions."
