For the specifics, look to the photos — they're of this exact item. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Captain Jack Sparrow never wins a fight the straightforward way, and Griptonite Games built this Nintendo DS adventure around that loose-limbed, improvised swagger. Based on the second film, Dead Man's Chest puts you in Jack's boots as Davy Jones comes to collect on an old debt, with cursed seas, undead sailors and monstrous enemies standing between Jack and his freedom.

It is a 3D action-adventure designed for pick-it-up, put-it-down sessions. You sword fight your way through the undead, swing from the rigging, escape a tribe of cannibals and pry treasure loose from booby-trapped hiding places, and the non-linear structure lets you range across the adventure rather than marching down a single corridor. Jack's unpredictable fighting style translates well to the handheld, and the swashbuckling has a scrappy, theatrical rhythm that suits the character far better than a polished hero's would.

The adventure pulls its settings and set pieces from the film, and the cannibal escape nods to one of the movie's funniest sequences. Published by Buena Vista Games in 2006, it was Disney's handheld companion to the blockbuster, released on both the DS and PSP while Pirates of the Caribbean was at the height of its pop-culture moment.

Playing it now is a little like opening a time capsule from the summer of 2006, when Jack Sparrow was everywhere and the DS was turning up in every backpack. It captures the tone of the films, chaotic and irreverent, with enough depth to carry a flight or a road trip, and it gives collectors of Pirates of the Caribbean games the Dead Man's Chest chapter in a form that fits in a pocket.

About the game

Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man’s Chest is a swashbuckling action-adventure for the Sony PSP and Nintendo DS. Players play as the notorious (or at least ‘heard of’) pirate Jack Sparrow. Throughout the game the player sword fights with the undead, swings from the rigging, escapes from cannibals, and liberates booby-trapped treasure in a non-linear, action-packed 3D game that emphasizes pick-it-up/put-it-down game play.
