Pokémon single: Pikachu (Japanese). Pikachu World Collection Promos #PW 5, foil. Pictured: this printing of the card. Every card ships triple-sleeved — a soft sleeve, a deck sleeve and a rigid top loader.
Item Description
The Pikachu World Collection celebrated the card game’s global reach in 2010, and its Japanese card is the one that points back to where it all started. PW 5 features Ken Sugimori’s stock Pikachu artwork, the clean, official pose drawn by the franchise’s original lead designer, set inside the gold holofoil border shared by every card in the collection.
The concept is what keeps collectors chasing the set: nine cards in nine languages, each with different artwork from a different illustrator, from Kouki Saitou on the English card to Atsuko Nishida, Pikachu’s original designer, on the French one. In Japan the collection was sold in July 2010 in two editions, a blue version at Pokémon Centers and a green one at 7-Eleven stores, and the English box followed that November alongside the 2010 World Championship decks.
This is the Pikachu World Collection promo PW 5, the Japanese-language Pikachu featuring Ken Sugimori’s artwork, in gold-bordered holofoil. Among its international siblings it reads as the anchor of the set, the home-language Pikachu that the other eight cards circle around.
