Piglet is the smallest and most nervous resident of the Hundred Acre Wood, which makes him the perfect hero for a game about facing your fears. In Piglet's Big Game, a telescope lets him slip into his friends' dreams, where Heffalumps and Woozles have turned sleep into something much scarier. Pooh's honey is gone, Roo's ball is stuck, Owl has lost his memory book, Eeyore's dreams have drained of color, Rabbit's harvest is in trouble and Tigger is missing his stripes. One by one, a very small pig decides to be very brave.
Piglet doesn't fight; he scares. Sneak up on a Heffalump or Woozle, pull off a "Brave Face" by tapping out the button code shown on screen, and the monster flees. New faces are bought with cookies hidden in and behind objects around each dream, so kicking over everything in sight pays off, and if an enemy catches Piglet off guard he gets frightened himself until he finds a Christopher Robin balloon to steady his nerves. Some dreams hand the controls to his friends: Tigger has to sneak past monsters without being spotted, while Pooh's rumbling stomach draws Heffalumps and Woozles straight toward him.
French studio Doki Denki gave the dreams a surreal, shadowy look, and critics at the time praised the voice work and art design, with GameSpot calling it much better than most children's games and movie tie-ins. Years later, players rediscovered just how eerie those dream worlds are, and director Pascal Stradella confirmed that Resident Evil and Luigi's Mansion were inspirations, describing it as a kind of cartoon Resident Evil handled with comedy. That blend of storybook warmth and gentle spookiness is exactly why it found a second life online.
Loosely tied to Disney's 2003 film Piglet's Big Movie, it plays as a short, kind-hearted adventure for younger players and a fascinating curiosity for everyone else, right up to the finale, when the Wood floods and Piglet has to stand up to the shadowy Granosorus. On the PlayStation 2 you get the full console adventure with all six dreams, rather than the trimmed Game Boy Advance version that leaves out Owl's and Tigger's, and it is a lovely way to share a little bravery with a new player.
It is another blustery day in the Hundred Acre Wood and Pooh, Tigger, Roo, Rabbit, Owl and Eeyore are having bad dreams of Heffalumps and Woozles. Pooh dreams that his honey is gone. Rabbit dreams his harvesting machine is broken. Roo dreams his ball is stuck in a tree. And Eeyore has lost the colors in his dreams. In this fun-filled adventure in dreams it is up to Piglet to save the day by being the bravest Piglet of all!
