Item Description

PGA Tour Golf II is the sequel that took EA's Genesis golf formula and filled the bag. Polygames kept the controls players already knew, the three-press swing meter and the grid view on the green that maps out every slope before a putt, then surrounded them with far more to play: seven courses instead of four, six of them modeled on real tracks plus a fantasy layout built for this game, along with five tournament modes, a skins game, practice rounds, a driving range and a putting green.

On the course it plays like a serious sim. You choose amateur or professional tees, pick which clubs make your bag before the round, and pull out chip and punch shots to escape a bunker or keep the ball under a branch. The wind matters far more than it did in the first game, gusting hard enough to push a long iron well off line, so reading conditions becomes as important as nailing the meter. Up to four players can share a round, which turns a slow Sunday afternoon into a proper living-room tournament.

Reviewers have noted that it is not an easy game, and the courses punish sloppy timing. That difficulty is the point for golf players: a round here is a patient, strategic duel with the course rather than an arcade birdie parade, and a good score feels earned. As the second chapter of the PGA Tour series that grew into EA's decades-long golf franchise, it is the entry to pick up if you want the early 16-bit games at their most content-rich.
