Item Description

A single year in a small town can change everything. Persona 4 Golden sends you to rural Inaba as a transfer student living with your uncle, police detective Ryotaro Dojima, and his young daughter Nanako, just as a string of bizarre murders begins and rumors spread about the Midnight Channel, a strange broadcast that appears on television screens on rainy nights. What starts as a curiosity pulls you and your new friends into the world inside the TV and a mystery that only you can solve.

Atlus built the game around the two halves of every day. By day you attend class, take exams, work part-time jobs and deepen Social Links with friends and townspeople, each relationship strengthening the Personas you fuse in the Velvet Room. By night you race the calendar, leading the Investigation Team into dungeons shaped by the hidden selves of the people trapped inside, where fast turn-based battles reward exploiting weaknesses with extra turns and All-Out Attacks. The pull between living your life and saving someone else's gives every in-game day weight.

The cast is what players remember most. Yosuke, Chie, Yukiko, Kanji, Rise, Naoto and the bear-suited Teddie grow from classmates into something like a family, and the game is as warm and funny as it is unsettling. Golden, the 2012 Vita version, expands the PlayStation 2 original with Marie, a mysterious new character with a dungeon of her own, a Social Link for Adachi, scooter trips beyond Inaba, new Personas, new winter events, more animated scenes, fuller voice acting and an extended epilogue.

Shoji Meguro's jazzy, J-pop-tinged soundtrack, with vocals by Shihoko Hirata and the new Golden opening theme "Shadow World", ties it all together. For years this was the game people bought a Vita to play, and the handheld's short-session rhythm fits the day-by-day calendar beautifully. Persona 4 Golden reached other platforms much later, but the Vita was its original home, and the cartridge that started its legend.

About the game

Persona 4 Golden is an enhanced version of the role-playing game Persona 4, combining turn-based combat with daily life simulation. Players control a high school student who moves to the rural town of Inaba for one year and becomes involved in investigating a series of murders linked to a mysterious world inside television sets. Gameplay is divided between exploring randomly generated dungeons where players fight Shadows using summoned creatures called Personas, and navigating daily life by attending school, building friendships through Social Links, and developing character attributes. Golden adds new story content including the character Marie, additional Personas, online features, new difficulty settings, expanded voice acting, and additional animated cutscenes over the original PlayStation 2 release.
