Item Condition

Game only: the cartridge in a protective holder, no box or manual. The photos are our own, taken from our stock of this game — look them over for condition, packaging and details. Every cartridge's shell, label and board are checked for authenticity when it comes into the store, and it's tested before it's listed. It ships in a collector's bag or a hard plastic case.

Item Description

Four very different ideas of what Pac-Man could be share this one cartridge. At its center is the 1980 original, the maze where Blinky, Pinky, Inky and Clyde each hunt you with their own personality, and reviewers praised how faithfully it was brought over. Because the original's tall screen does not fit the GBA naturally, you get a choice between a full view of the maze or a closer, scrolling view.

Around it are three reinventions. Pac-Mania, from 1987, tilts the maze into an isometric 3D perspective and lets Pac-Man jump clean over the ghosts. Pac-Attack, the 1993 puzzle spin-off first seen on the Super Nintendo and Genesis, is a falling-block game where ghosts get trapped among the pieces until Pac-Man drops in to eat them, with both a normal mode and a puzzle mode. The surprise is Pac-Man Arrangement, a 1996 remix originally tucked into the arcade compilation Namco Classic Collection Vol. 2: it spreads the chase across six themed worlds of new mazes packed with dash arrows, jump pads and fresh power-ups, and adds Kinky, a mischievous new ghost who merges with the others to give them tricks of their own, all kicked off by an updated remix of the classic theme.

Developed by Mass Media, the California studio behind earlier Namco Museum collections, and released by Namco in 2001, it became one of the best-selling games on the Game Boy Advance, with more than 2.9 million copies sold worldwide by 2007. Adjustable starting lives and difficulty settings on most of the games let you tune the challenge, which helps make it as good for a quick five-minute run as for chasing a long streak.

Ms. Pac-Man is the one name missing, because Namco had already put her on its GBA Namco Museum cartridge shortly before, so the two releases make a natural pair. On its own, Pac-Man Collection is the most complete tour of the character's first decade and a half that fit in a pocket in 2001, from the arcade original to the oddball remix most players never saw in an arcade.

About the game

One of the first video games ever created, PAC-MAN still happens to be one of the best, as well. This comprehensive collection includes three unique Pac-Man titles in one complete package. Inside you'll find the original Pac-Man which has you traversing mazes, avoiding deadly ghosts, and chomping down nutritious dots; Pac-Mania is a 3D take on the first version, in which you can actually jump over the ghosts; and Pac-Attack is a Tetris-like experience that'll have you lining up blocks in a fast-paced environment.
